"I'm in Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It's been a while since I've been here, and I forgot how much I love it! It's so big! And there's so much stuff! And it's so pretty! And all I want to do is decorate and organize and store and clean!"
His answer to this? "Damn, Lynn, you're old."
Well, it's true. I'm almost at the halfway point between 29 and 30, and I have a small litter of offspring. I live in the suburbs. I drive a station wagon most days. I cannot tell you what the hot new drink is at Saint Ex, but I can tell you that the local preschool begins their enrollment lottery in January. (So early!) My life is firmly in the realm of Raising a Family.
This is all fine by me. But last night, things changed a bit for me. Matt, my lovely husband that busts his butt so that I can buy moderately pricey trash cans at my rediscovered Shangri-La, told me to go out and have a night to myself. I replied, "You know, I'm not really feeling it. I'd rather stay home and catch up on our shows so that we can get our Fringe on tomorrow night."
WHAT?!
I rarely, if ever, give up a night out. Granted, most nights include a cup of decaf coffee and a free wi-fi connection so that I can surf teh Intarwebz and write without being distracted, but sometimes it includes getting my nails did and shopping. (Albeit for moderately pricey trash cans.) But for some reason, I just wanted to stay in and watch heart-stopping sci-fi with my husband while drinking wine and eating pilfered Halloween candy. Primarily so that I can stay in, again, to watch heart-stopping sci-fi with my husband while drinking wine and eating pilfered Halloween candy.
I used to be awesome. I used to dance until 2am in super-high heels and short skirts while tossing back the 'Backer's infamous Long Island Iced Teas. I used to travel to (somewhat) exotic places and engage in (relatively) extreme sports. I used to overcome language barriers with a mix of English, the local language, and Pointy-Talky. Now, I'm just an old nerd.
And that's cool.
